In hemodialysis, your blood is allowed to flow through a machine with a special filter that removes wastes and extra fluids. The clean blood is then returned to your body. Removing the harmful wastes and extra salt and fluids helps control your blood pressure and keep the proper balance of chemicals like potassium and sodium in your body.
Patients are accepted for treatment when the required information has been received and reviewed by our Medical Director and Head Nurse. When travel is anticipated it is advisable to have the home dialysis unit forward all requested information as soon as possible. At least 21 days notice is recommended. After all your records have been reviewed we will inform you in writing whether we can medically accommodate you. If so, your treatment schedule will be included in the notice. We will then also notify you of your financial responsibility.
